Community Cafe
The Community Cafe is a very different venture for The Next Step Trust. At the front of the centre, nearest the road, is our largest room, and this is being made into a full Community Cafe with Internet Cafe facilities.
The Hanson Environment Fund has very kindly sponsored a specialised kitchen - it has been designed to be used by several wheelchair users and their helpers simultaneously. Worksurfaces and sinks are at different heights, and one surface can be adjusted 'to fit'. All the standard facilities that you would expect are provided - multiple ovens, mutiple cooking rings, a large freezer, a large fridge, a dishwasher, etc.
All the tables and chairs for users of the cafe have been donated, although, as space is currently limited, most are temporarily being stored off site.
And now a large conservatory has been added at the side of the building. A doorway links the current cafe to the conservatory so that we have a much larger space for the public to use. The main entrance to the Cafe will be through the conservatory, thus protecting the rest of the centre.
When open to the public later this year, the cafe will serve a range of simple (but very good) foods - soups, jacket potatoes, quiche, etc. as well as hot and cold drinks. All the food will have been prepared by the Next Steppers, and will be served by them as well. Why not come along and try it - you will enjoy youurself as well as help us in this very worthwhile venture.
The Cafe also hosts a complete Internet suite, kindly sponsored by West Yorkshire Connexions (for details please follow the link), so you can browse the internet in comfortable and relaxed suroundings.
