Jack

Jack attended Ravenscliffe school until he was 19, and really enjoyed the stimulation and educational opportunities, but then it all came to an end. He was offered 2 days a week at Huddersfield College which he enjoys, but it wasn't enough.

Jack becomes withdrawn and introverted when he doesn't get enough stimulation and the opportunity to learn new skills, Jack takes a long time to learn simple skills, but once he's learnt it, it's in for life. The Next Step Trust came to the rescue.

Along with College, swimming and activities at home, Jack attends the Next Step Trust centre for two mornings each week. He gets physiotherapy support and, thanks to the adapted equipment, is using switches for cooking and computer activities independently.

Jack has progressed faster than anyone expected and takes a full part in meal preparation. He loves the large sensory room for stimulation and the physio room for full floor mobility. Jack can move independently now across the whole room. He loves being with other people and the relaxed, stimulating and happy atmosphere at Next Steps and has started to relate to other Next Steppers.

As soon as Jack gets in in the morning he is raring to go, using the food processor and making himself his favourite smoothies. The Next StepTrust has improved his learning opportunities, his social interaction opportunities and his physical movement. I honestly believe without these opportunities Jack's quality of life would be reduced.
