PC 1971 Warren Gray

Warren has spent a week at the Trust as part of his Police training.

I have been at The Next Step Trust on my community placement as I am a new recruit to the West Yorkshire police force. Throughout my placement I have had the privilege of experiencing activities which the Next Steppers participate in. I have had the honour of participating at bowling, swimming at the hydro pool, cooking, cycling, aromatherapy, gardening, shopping and chilling out with the Next Steppers watching a DVD.

Through these experiences I have improved my communication skills greatly as I can now read body language and hand signals at a higher standard than before. The improvement will help me a great deal when I am working for the police on the streets to communicate with different communities, this will hopefull make me a better police officer which I have to thank the Next Step Trust for letting me experince this aopportunity.

Also whilst on my placement I have had the honour of meeting and working with extraordinary individuals. The variety in personalities makes the Next Step Trust community centre a very enjoyable place to come visit. The individuals here have welcomed me with open arms which have made me feel like a true Next Stepper. Hopefully whist in the police force I'll be able to keep the link and visit the Trust on occasions and bring uniform and equipment in for the Next Steppers to explore and have a play around in.

I just want to say a big thank you to the Next Step Trust and all the Next Steppers I have been involved with who have made this experience thoroughly enjoyable. I wish the Trust and the Next Steppers all the best for the future.

Big Thank You,
