Sensory Garden

The Sensory Garden is a major new development that is utilising some land just behind the Mayfield Centre and the Next Step Trust's Centre in King Cross.
The conversion of this unused land into a full Sensory Garden is being undertaken as a joint project between The Next Step Trust, The Mayfield Trust, and Ravenscliffe High School, with all costs being shared between the three organisations. Grants have been obtained from Awards 4 All, O2 Your Community, The Bearder Charity, and VCashpoint, and HBOS has provided much volunteer labour to clear the land and erect fencing and a shed.
The development of the garden is being managed by a trained Horticulturalist from Ravenscliffe, who is spending a day each week in the Sensory Garden.
When completed, all areas of the garden will be accessible by wheelchair, and the flower and vegetable beds will be raised to allow easy access. There will be areas of seating, a bar-b-que area, swings, a pagoda, a pergola, a water feature - enabling a wide variety of activities to take place. The garden will provide both a relaxing place for members of all 3 charities as well as a place for them to relax as well as practice (and gain) horticultural skills.
Over time, we hope that the garden will allow the users to produce items for sale - vegetables, bedding plants, bowls of bulbs, etc., the funds raised all being ploughed back (if you'll pardon the pun) into the garden.
As the garden's development progress, we will be recording its progress on this web page, so keep looking in to see the latest stages.
This is the intended plan for the garden.
